Christmas Cats

Decided that if Edward and Richard Bawden want to be soppy and draw cats at christmas, then I can too. Scritch scratched in ink with pen n nib.

Trolls scrubbing the VW

Another snapshot of the trolls I spent a weekend in Brighton with. Here they are in their shorts and wellies on a chilly October morning, spraying water around while I sit cosy in the van in my pyjamas.

Festive Daylight Music @ Union Chapel

Finally got myself to this concert called Daylight Music, held on Saturday afternoons in Islington's Union Chapel, with a different label / musicians featured each time. It was smashing having light to be able to draw at a gig, and even better because the choir was wearing all their fanciest chrimble knitwear. I think Fake Laugh with his poignant piano plinking was my favourite of the day, from a really top notch bill.

Hut life

Here's a drawing with words, summarising a recent short stay in Snowdonia. I think I included all the important bits... the internet was delivered by ethernet cable and just enough Mbps to stream radio :)

Handsome tractor and a well conditioned cow

Definite lack of sunshine during my trip to Wales this week, but I got out to draw this between drizzles. "What are you going to draw?" Asked my host seeing me leave my abode with sketchbook under arm. An old tractor! I enthusiastically replied, to his laughter.

Trolls watching Trolls

Got to stay with this fun trio while in Brighton for Pygmalion. They were very good sitters! Afterwards they insisted I draw a picture of the Trolls film on the TV, so I drew everything else as well.

Business as usual in Wiltons

Place for a film to happen...

I'm drawing some funny little buildings in rural locations at the moment that I think will provide the setting for some animation, one day. Here's my favourite so far.

Inktober! Zhora's plastic mac

I'm doing my best to complete 'inktober' by making 1 ink drawing everyday this month. Here I tried to capture the beautiful spectacle of Zhora's death in the original Blade Runner, which I've JUST got round to watching. The styling and montage is incredible and it's surely going to haunt me.

Pygmalion - performance photos from Stroud Green Festival, and some of my original drawings

In a month's time I will be headed down to Brighton where Ensemble Moliere will again be performing their modern interpretation of Rameau's opera 'Pygmalion', this time at the Brighton Early Music Festival :) Here are some shots of when they performed at Stroud Green Festival this summer, and some of the original ink drawings I made, that I then animated in After Effects. Click over here to read the Q&A I did for Ensemble Moliere's blog . If you're around Brighton in the last weekend October do come and see it! Tickets can be bought at the BREMF2017 website here.

Vallorcine - veg patch at the end of the world

Beyond the village of Vallorcine in fact... the slow motion hamlet of Barberine at the furthest end of the valley. Here someone has created a beautifully intricate veg patch. Sat down to draw and after 20 minutes endless streams of people in wet suits started passing us!! I can only guess there are some impressive water features nearby and they had all been canyoning. An apparently local lady walked by and asked to see what I was drawing. Then she pointed out the cauliflower plants are arranged in the shape of a snail.

Great big rocks at Merry-sur-Yonne

Top breakfast drawing spot. A man with a ride-on lawn mower mowed all around us while we made our pictures :)
